This product has been a great investment for our family. We haven’t experienced any issues with the charger nor with any energizer rechargeable batteries going bad.
I charge 8 AA’s and one 9volt and use them every week for live onstage music. They power wireless units and my camera. As i write this i’ve been using the same set and charger for about eight months without a hitch. My wife just commented today about buying C’s and D’s…..i highly recommend energizer rechargeable batteries and this specific family charger.

this product does not work as it should. you would need to fumble with it several times to get it to work. new batteries, right out of the package, were inserted to be charged and the device states it was bad batteries. readjusted it and it was ok. but it still took a while to have it working by readjusting the batteries so it could charge. you still need to check on it constantly so it could charge properly.

As a rechargeable battery fan, I’ve owned many 4-cell chargers.
Then I began to use 15+ AAA NiMH batteries per day at work; I was tired of the 4-cell chargers, some of which would end up uncomfortably warm.
I saw the “Energizer Family Charger” and bought it mostly because it would charge up to 8 batteries, in about 6 hours — I could charge a set while I was at work and one overnight.
After a couple of months of frequent use, we reduced usage to about 20 batteries/week and then the projects been on hold.
But in that time this charger has been absolutely a great buy.
Pro:
– Bad Cell detection. When you have 40+ cells that you use on a regular basis, some will die. Without
some method to discover bad cells, you’ll waste a lot of time trying to discover the problem.
– 1-cell charging. This charge has 4 “slots” each of which will hold 1 or 2 cells. So, if you’re
like me with a bunch of 3-cell devices, this offers you a solution that most do not.
Cons:
– kind of pricey.
In fact I like this charger so much, it’s the only one I use at home.

As a new father I found 99% of all my child’s toys/monitors are run on batteries. I had a few non-rechargeable around the house, but I quickly drained those. Rechargeable batteries just make sense. CONS: they are 2-3 times the cost of regular batteries. The operation time is a little less than standard batteries. PROS: They can be recharged many times (My originals rechargeable have lasted 8 months with about 5 recharges). Less waste in a land fill. I plan to give the charger as a gift to new father friends.

I bought this battery charger because I wanted one that can handle size D batteries, also one that can charge 8 AA batteries at a time. Also, this charger has a LCD readout which shows the charge progress of each battery which is a nice touch. A unique feature of this charger is that the batteries don’t start charging until the lid is closed. That is how the contacts are made on the positive/negative areas of the batteries. This feature is both good and bad. It is good as a safety measure (I assume, since it’s called a family charger, the audience includes children). Yet, because the contacts aren’t spring loaded, with AA and AAA batteries, sometimes after closing the lid, the contacts don’t seem to touch properly and I found that I had to shuffle the batteries around and get them to work by trial and error.
What I like:
– charges sizes besides AAA and AA
– charges up to 8 AAA and AA batteries at a time
– LCD display showing individual battery status
What I dislike:
– AA and AAA batteries needed some reshuffling to get it to charge
One feature that the charger also has is a hibernate feature. After the charge is done, if left idle the charger hibernates. I haven’t yet to test if it keeps the batteries trickle charged yet or not. It is supposed to, but I haven’t tested that yet.
Overall, a nice charger, but which the contacts were recognized each time while several AA, AAA batteries.
